The Viewer – June 2013

June 2013

Aside the official and only Oscar’s ceremony held in LA, apart from the DD Oscars given by Nick and Katy off the official band’s site, this is the place where we post our feedback on the most impressive movies we have watched.

We use the following “rough” method to judge

*** (3 stars) good movie, but not excellent

**** (4 stars) great

***** (5 stars) don’t miss it, highly recommended

K2 – THE ITALIANS’ MOUNTAIN

It was a documentary- tribute movie produced by an Italian company and shot on the Austrian Alps, designed to pay homage to the crew of Italian-Nepalese of climbers and locals who in early 1954 arrived on the top of the K2, the second tallest mount on Earth after Everest, on the Himalaya mountain chain. Many of the family members of those climbers are still living, today, so some controversy was raised at the very beginning of the shooting, as all of the parts involved in the project wanted the movie not to be biased. The docu – movie highlighted some sort of rivalry between the climbers, highlighted that sometimes the locals didn’t give total support: these things struck me the most. The biting cold was the strongest obstacle in 1954 and the hardest thing to sort of “reproduce” in Austria last year during the shooting. The message of the Italians goal is to never give in, it is to try being optimistic.

***** to recommend

THE GAME with Michael Douglas

An awesome lonely rich man leads a very easy, but boring life. On his birthday he’s given a strange game: to receive it he must pass a long set of medical visits; he must meet with some dire guys in a club; at first at home and at work he receives menaces and other bad warnings. The Game actually is a society thriller game, where if you want to win you have to kill the others.

**** Amazing story starring a great Michael Douglas.

WHAT IF IT WERE TRUE? With Rise Whiterspoon

A young guy rent an apartment in San Francisco, on his own. During the first day of stay, while he was going to the kitchen he finds a young lady in front of him, baling him of illegally occupying her flat. As he turns back, she disappears. The day after going out of the shower box in the restroom, he sees her from the semi-steamed mirror; he cleans the steam off and she disappears again.

A rather silly ghost story,

The movie is funny thanks to the main actors.

*** 3 stars = good, but if you can change TV channel …

 Next update in September 2013.
